Learning and Connecting

You have heard me talk about the importance of continually learning and connecting.  This is true whether you are a business owner like me, in career transition or just seeking to enhance your life.

One great way to learn and connect is through LinkedIn Groups.  Here members can post questions, ideas and resources – and start interesting and thought provoking conversations about all different topics.  It is a fantastic way to learn what your colleagues and connections are thinking about, what works for them and what matters to them.

You may already be a part of some of these groups but one I recently found that is a great help to those in career transition is called Career Change Central.  Here career and HR professionals share different perspectives and strageies for success.

Knowing Why

“Knowing why you want what you want is fuel that keeps you inspired and on your path.”

This is one of the images and messages that appear in my new Journal of Possibility.  What does it mean to “know why”?

Most of my clients initially come to me seeking happiness, fulfillment and purpose.  I ask them to define what each of those things mean to them.  Some are able to do that immediatley, but for many it takes time and introspection to clarify not only what they truly want, but why they want it.

Why might you want something?  Happiness is not an answer, it is too elusive, too big.   You will want to dig deeper to discover what makes you feel the sense of happiness.  Then dig deeper still to why those things make you happy – until you hit on the powerful why, the one that will keep you inspired to stay on your path!

My Financial Values

To me, financial values means knowing my priorities, what matters most to me, what is worth it and what isn’t.  It also means making the most of what I already have.

There is something about re-purposing, re-using, re-positioning what I already own into something different that really gives me a thrill.  Shopping at the thrift store is a similar thrill.  Though I am bringing something new into my space, the item is recycled which to me adds something special to its meaning, like a treasure.

Seeing such disparate items piled together on racks and shelves opens up my creative spirit.  You really have to look, touch and ponder when items are juxtaposed this way.  It brings a sense of presence to my shopping experience….and matches my other values of beauty and creativity.
